Realme confirms Android 11 on major smartphones: Check if your phone is eligible

Realme has finally confirmed that the Realme smartphones, including the X series and Pro series, will be eligible for the Android 11 update. Realme has confirmed that at least six of its recent smartphones will be eligible for Android 11 update as and when it becomes available sometime this year. Replying to a query of a Realme phone user on Twitter, company’s CMO for the Indian market, Francis Wang said the Realme X series and the Realme Pro will get two major updates, which we assume will be Android 10 and Android 11. The confirmation came as a clarification to what Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said in a recent episode of his AskMadhav series on YouTube. He said that Realme X series will receive at least one Android update, which created confusion amid users about the rollout of Android versions. If Wang’s statement is anything to go by, the entire Realme X series that includes Realme X, Realme XT, Realme X2, and Realme X2 Pro is eligible for both Android 10 and Android 11 up...

Economic survey may forecast 2020-21 growth at 6%-6.5%: Report

While it remains to be seen whether Sitharaman's budget can accommodate all remedial measures, the government has already released estimates which have pegged GDP growth in 2019-20 at 5 per cent.  The Economic Survey 2019-20 may forecast growth at 6 per cent to 6.5 per cent for the next fiscal starting April 1, 2020. The projection will take in to account all the fiscal measures that will be announced by the government tomorrow in the Union Budget 2020-21, according to Reuters. It may be noted that growth in India slipped to a dismal 4.5 per cent in the July-September quarter, but economists suggest that growth will marginally improve in the upcoming quarter. Growth is likely to improve further as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to announce several fresh measures to tackle economic slowdown. While the government is certainly missing its fiscal deficit target, economists have urged the Finance Ministry to focus on spending more in key sectors apart from pr...

Realme fitness band spotted in the wild; here's the first look

The realme fitness band is appearing in leaks back and forth since past few days and there seems to be no stopping. The unannounced fitness tracker has now been spotted on the wrist of Realme India CEO, Madhav Sheth at the Spanish Visa office in New Delhi. The leaked image which was shared by  Beebom  gives us a sneak peek at the device and reveals its look. In the image, the fitness band can be seen sporting a rectangular curved display attached to a yellow-coloured band that does not wrap around the display and instead just supports it. There appear to be no physical buttons on the display which means there could be a touch screen coloured panel.  Like Honor Band 5 and Mi Band 4, the Realme fitness band may also get an AMOLED panel with various physical exercise tracking features.  The technical specs of the fitness band are still hiding behind the curtains but since Realme has scheduled to unveil it next month (that is in...

Why the Budget should do a balancing between short-term and long-term needs

With the current economic growth rate sitting at a six-year low – a consequence of a prolonged trailing off of consumption – expectations from the upcoming Budget, to be unveiled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February, is extremely high. Over the last few months, there has been some glimmer of hope with the markets enjoying a bounce, following the quick-fix measures implemented by FM Sitharaman, including the corporate tax rate cut, and the formulation of an alternative investment vehicle for the real-estate sector. However, Budget 2020 will need to announce several new reforms if there is to be any hope of an economic revival over the next few quarters. With a swelling fiscal deficit, FM Sitharaman faces an unenviable challenge in implementing short-term measures, without sacrificing a long-term agenda.  The recent measures implemented by the Finance Ministry have, predominantly, been supply-side in nature, so it follows that the next step would be addressing the...

Notably, the consortium managed the Qi wireless charging used by almost all smartphone vendors. The listing of OnePlus brand is now live on the consortium page and mentions the brand as "WPC membership: Full member." OnePlus has been one brand that has redefined the mid-premium segment with its flagship smartphones and has captured decent market share in the sub-Rs 40,000 segments in India riding high on the success of its OnePlus 5, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 7 series. However, there has been one constant qualm - no wireless charging - raised by consumers and even some reviewers who have highlighted this for almost every OnePlus device launched so far. This may finally change with the OnePlus 8 series.  We expect the OnePlus 8 Pro to support Qi wireless charging while OnePlus 8 may not get the feature. This could be d...
