New Delhi: Local prices of petrol and diesel were cut for the second successive day across the country on Friday (January 31). Following today’s rate revision, petrol prices were lowered by 9-10 paise while diesel prices were slashed 8-9 paise across major metro cities of the country. In Delhi, petrol prices dropped to Rs 73.27 a litre as against Rs 73.36 per litre on Thursday while diesel is retailing at Rs 66.28 a litre, 8 paise less than yesterday’s price, as per data from Indian Oil Corporation website.
The retail prices of fuel in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. Also, as per the daily pricing mechanism, the prices of petrol and diesel in India are dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate. On Thursday, the Indian rupee slid 22 paise to close at a three-week low of 71.49 against the US dollar due to heavy sell-off in domestic equities amid rising concerns over the outbreak of coronavirus.
In Mumbai, petrol is sold at Rs 78.88 a litre, down 9 paise compared with yesterday’s price of Rs 78.97 a litre, and diesel is sold at Rs 69.47 a litre, decrease by 9 paise from Rs 72.27 a litre on Thursday. Likewise in Kolkata, the retail prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 75.90 (9 paise less) a litre and Rs 68.64 (8 paise decrease) a litre respectively.
Petrol price dropped by 10 paise today in Chennai and is selling at Rs 76.01 per litre while diesel rate is retailing at Rs 70.01 a litre, 8 paise less than yesterday’s price. In Noida, petrol is retailing at Rs 74.89 a litre, cut by 7 paise from Rs 74.96 a litre on Thursday. Diesel price in Noida dropped from Rs 66.62 a litre on Thursday to Rs 66.54 on Friday. The price of petrol in Gurugram fell by 7 paise to Rs 73.09 a litre while diesel was selling at Rs 65.51 a litre as against Rs 65.58 a litre yesterday.
