It's a dark week for the Indian film fraternity. Hardly had we recovered from the shocking news of Irrfan Khan passing away, that the news of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor breathing his last hit us. The actor had been admitted to the hospital last night and brother Randhir had given out a statement to Zoom TV that the family is very stressed regarding Rishi's health. The actor's cancer had relapsed and hence his health started deteriorating. He left for heavenly abode at 8.54 am after a two-year battle with leukemia.
The actor had left for New York two years ago to start his treatment and had recovered and returned to India. The actor lost his battle with leukemia after it relapsed.
The official statement read as, " "Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.  He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him",

What is Leukemia that Rishi was suffering from?

Leukemia is a cancer of the body's blood-forming tissues including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system. They form in the White Blood Cells (WBC's). WBC's help our body fight infections. A leukemia patient has abnormal WBC's and hence they are unable to fight for the body.
There are no underlying reasons for cancer to emerge. According to Mayoclinic.net it seems to develop from a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
The symptoms for the disease vary depending on the type of leukemia. Common symptoms include - Fever. weakness, weight loss, frequent or severe infection, swollen lymph nodes, excessive sweating, and bone pain.
You may overlook early leukemia symptoms because they may resemble symptoms of the flu and other common illnesses.
Rishi Kapoor fought well and hard. May his soul rest in peace.
