Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra qualifies for Tokyo Olympics 2020

New Delhi:  After recovering from an elbow injury, ace India javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a throw of 87.86m at the Athletics Central North East meeting in South Africa. This was the Olympic medal hopeful's first competitive event after recovering from the injury. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) also said that they've confirmed with their South African counterparts that it was a ‘recognised international meet', and hence the Olympic cut has been made. Neeraj's last major international competition was the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games last August where he won gold with a national record of 88.06m. The elbow injury had forced Neeraj to miss competitive action for most part of 2019. He was expected to participate in the National Open Athletics Championship late last year, but the AFI decided to allow Neeraj more time to get competition ready.

Beating Retreat 2020: Services at 2 Delhi Metro stations to be curtailed

New Delhi:  Train services at two metro stations near India Gate will be curtailed today due to the Beating Retreat Ceremony at Vijay Chowk. Delhi Metro's Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli to HUDA City Centre) will be affected by this and services at Udyog Bhawan and Central Secretariat will not be available for few hours. "At Udyog Bhawan station, the services will not be available from 2-6.30 PM while it will not be available at Central Secretariat from 4-6.30pm. Also, entry and exit at Central Secretariat station will be allowed from gate no 1 only from 2-4 PM while rest of the gates will remain closed during this period," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. However, interchange facility from Yellow Line to Violet Line (Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh) and vice versa will be allowed at Central Secretariat station during this period, reported PTI. A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck in the Caribbean Sea between Jamaica and eastern Cuba on Tuesday, shaking a vast area from Mexico to Florida and beyond, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or heavy damage.
